Arizona: Visual stories told by locals

Arizona: Visual stories told by locals

At Richau & Co Boutique + Gallery, our latest exhibition, Arizona: Visual Stories Told by Locals, skips past the expected cowboy westerns to reveal the deeper beauty, culture, and complexity of our home state.

This collection celebrates the many layers that make Arizona such an extraordinary place to live. Each artist offers a distinct perspective, yet together they tell a shared story of connection, pride, and place.

The Culture Beneath the Surface

Car enthusiasts will be drawn to Rudy Mendoza’s large-format oil painting of a ’55 Fairlane, a tribute to Arizona’s vibrant car culture, from classic shows and exotic collectors to the legendary Route 66. Lorraine Swartz honors our Latin influences, exploring heritage, rhythm, and the boundary where the real and imagined dissolve.

Nature lovers will find tranquility in Edna Dapo’s celebration of Arizona’s often-overlooked trees, where rich colors emerge when you pause and let your eyes wander in nature.

Tiffany Featherstone and Terry Amerine capture the wonder of our star-filled skies, inspired by Arizona’s 23 designated Dark Sky areas, many of which are beloved artist communities that blend nature and art.

Finally, Cyn Silva’s ethereal plein air landscapes and modern abstract cowboy piece bridge the timeless with the contemporary, proving that Arizona’s creative spirit is both timeless and ever-evolving.

This exhibition honors the contrasts of our landscape and the diversity of our people. It invites visitors to see Arizona not through stereotypes, but through the eyes of locals who live and create here every day.
