This painting reflects the quiet, intuitive way Arizona shapes how I see and move through the world. The grid of forms draws from the desert’s rhythm, vast openness balanced by moments of concentrated intensity, like bursts of color against an otherwise restrained landscape. The palette echoes the shifting tones of Arizona light: sun-faded pinks, mineral reds, dusty yellows, and deep desert greens that feel both grounded and atmospheric. Rather than depicting a literal scene, the painting holds the sensation of being here, the stillness of wide skies, the repetition of hiking on paths, and the way heat and light flatten and simplify what we see. Living in Arizona has taught me to notice subtle shifts, in color, temperature, and mood, and this work becomes a quiet meditation on that awareness, translating the desert’s calm clarity into form, color, and structure.
